What to Expect in an Astrology Consultation
If you have never had an astrology reading before, it helps to know what actually happens in a session. There is no mystery to it, and you do not need to prepare anything unusual.
Step 1: Booking
You share your date, time, and place of birth. Accuracy matters here. Even a few minutes’ difference in birth time can shift the ascendant, which is the sign rising in the east at the moment you were born, and that in turn shifts every house in the chart. Birth time is usually printed on a birth certificate or hospital discharge record, so it is worth checking there if you are not sure of the exact time.
If you do not have an exact birth time, say so clearly when booking. An experienced astrologer can still give useful guidance using an approximate time, but some fine details of the reading, especially exact timing of events, become less reliable without it.
Step 2: Chart Preparation
Before your session, your birth chart is calculated and studied in advance. This means the actual consultation time is spent talking about what the chart shows and answering your questions, rather than doing calculations in front of you.
Step 3: The Session Itself
Most consultations run 30 to 60 minutes, over phone or video call. You are welcome to come with specific questions, for example about career, marriage, or the right time for a decision, or you can simply ask for a general overview of your chart. A good reading feels like a conversation, not a lecture. Expect to be asked a few questions about your current life situation as well, since that context helps the astrologer connect the chart to your actual life.
Step 4: What You Walk Away With
By the end of a session, you should have:
- A clear picture of your chart’s main themes and strengths
- An understanding of your current planetary period (dasha) and what it tends to bring
- Practical guidance on the specific question that brought you in
- The option to book a follow-up session if new questions come up later
Setting Realistic Expectations
Astrology works best as a tool for reflection and timing. It is not meant to replace your own judgment, and it is not a substitute for professional advice on legal, medical, or financial matters. A good astrologer will tell you honestly when a question falls outside what a birth chart can meaningfully answer, rather than giving a vague answer just to satisfy the question.
